Haman’s Plot to Destroy the Jews

After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman, son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles. All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.

Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply. Therefore they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behavior would be tolerated, for he had told them he was a Jew.

When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged. Yet having learned who Mordecai’s people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead, Haman looked for a way to destroy all of Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes.

In the twelfth year of King Xerxes, in the first month, the month of Nisan, the pur (that is, the lot) was cast in the presence of Haman to select a day and month. And the lot fell on[a] the twelfth month, the month of Adar.

Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will give ten thousand talents[b] of silver to the king’s administrators for the royal treasury.”

10 So the king took his signet ring from his finger and gave it to Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews. 11 “Keep the money,” the king said to Haman, “and do with the people as you please.”

12 Then on the thirteenth day of the first month the royal secretaries were summoned. They wrote out in the script of each province and in the language of each people all Haman’s orders to the king’s satraps, the governors of the various provinces and the nobles of the various peoples. These were written in the name of King Xerxes himself and sealed with his own ring. 13 Dispatches were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews—young and old, women and children—on a single day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods. 14 A copy of the text of the edict was to be issued as law in every province and made known to the people of every nationality so they would be ready for that day.

15 The couriers went out, spurred on by the king’s command, and the edict was issued in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Susa was bewildered.

Shining Stars Camp Can-Do Summer Classes & Camp Adventures – July 4th to Aug 25th, 2023.

Camp Finale with presentations, dinner, cake auction took place on August 25@ Ward Memorial Baptist Church at 5:00 p.m. It was a festive, joyous event. Campers presented PowerPoint on selected provinces and countries, sang songs of praise and inspiration, and showed creative art and robotic examples to parents and friends. One parent shared that her son was always singing  Matt Maher’s The Lord’s Prayer (It’s Yours)”. One camp leader shared that Justin Bieber’s  “Hold on” keep resonating in mind and spirit.

The camp staff and volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the summer in all circumstances to provide a safe, fun-emotional, spiritual, and physical activity charged experience for campers and themselves.

It truly takes the proverbial cliché- “It takes a village to raise a child”.

G&I Shining Stars Youth Society is founded and anchored on the intentional and deeply  held belief that every child/youth is precious and takes all part of the village to care for and nurture them to be leaders and influencers for good in the now and future generations. Two campers shared a poignant verse-  “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9 NIV).

What an experience this has been, to see shining stars kids who first participated as children yesterday, work this summer as leaders and site supervisor impacting the lives of campers for tomorrow.  Leaders, volunteers, and some campers also helped in the preparation of over 400 care meals for extended community in Vancouver’s DTES ( with additional help from Pacific Grace life group in Port Moody). Interestingly, 3 persons were previous volunteers / staff of Shining Stars After-school and Camp Can-Do.

A very special thanks to CSC-Global ministry youth team and leaders who spent a week working together with the Shining Stars Team, sharing , inspiring and shining points of light on site ,ending with a community  carnival outreach: sports, RC Cars, popcorn, cotton candy machine, BBQ dogs. Many in the community were surprised that they were welcomed to participate without cost.

We come to the end of our “Shine, Inspire & Care Adventures, but it’s not the end but a continuation of better days and things to come as we work together in community.

Shining Stars Camp Can-Do Summer Classes and Adventures 2024 will begin on July 2nd.

We thank you for your prayers for Shining Stars Camp Can -Do staff, volunteers, families, and campers.

Note: Donate your bottles and cans to  G&I  Shining Stars Youth Society. Proceeds go towards children locally and beyond, as well as care meals for the Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Financial Donations are accepted throughout the year: it’s life giving as you impact lives into the generations.

Prayers for Vision school fall session.

May Romans 15: 7-9 encourage you this week, “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, to bring praise to God. For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews[b] on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.”

Celebration Zone Volunteer teachers and assistants needed for Fall. Contact Yvonne and Jen.

Dear Lord, thank you for your faithfulness, patience, loving compassion, and forgiveness.

We humbly ask for your intervention, justice and peace in war torn areas, renewed harmony and reconciliation in families, community, and country, reduction/abolition in the raging fires. Enable us to intentionally seek you and apply your truths in our daily lives. Transform us to be a people who shines your light to dispel any darkness of hate, greed, injustices and provide your hope.

  • Thank you for reminding us in 1 Timothy 1:15 that you accept all who believe and call on your name, “It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.”
  • And in Colossians 1:11 “being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.”
