Scripture Reading:  James 3:1-12

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and saltwater flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olive, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Thank God for Mother’s Love – Anonymous

A mother’s patience of a saint could only be by the hand of God.

There is no love, like a mother’s love,
no stronger bond on earth…
like the precious bond that comes from God,
to a mother, when she gives birth.

A mother’s love is forever strong,
never changing for all time…
and when her children need her most,
a mother’s love will shine.

God bless these special mothers,
God bless them every one…
for all the tears and heartache,
and for the special work they’ve done.

When her days on earth are over,
a mother’s love lives on…
through many generations,
with God’s blessings on each one.

Be thankful for our mothers,
for they love with a higher love…
from the power God has given,
and the strength from up above.

His Mother – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

A biblical reference to convey your undying love for mom.

Even He that died for us upon the cross, in the last hour, in the unutterable agony of death, was mindful of His mother, as if to teach us that this holy love should be our last worldly thought – the last point of earth from which the soul should take its flight for heaven.

Pentecost Sunday, May 19,2024

What is Pentecost? Read Acts 2:1-13. Pentecost is normally celebrated 50 days after Easter. In Biblical history it was celebrated as the beginning of the wheat harvest, which followed the celebration of the beginning of the barley harvest (Feast of the First Fruits). For Christians, it’s the fulfillment of the promise of Jesus to send and empower believers with the Holy Spirit. On the first Pentecost following Jesus’ resurrection, 3000 new believers was added to the early church.

Dear Lord, grant us fortitude /courage to be your children of light especially in areas where darkness appears to suffocate your light. Let the power of your resurrection engulf our hearts, bodies, and souls to intentionally live lives that reflect your truth and unconditional love. Revive us with your discernment that we can echo like the Emmaus disciples, in Luke 24:32 NIV:

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Colossians 3:15-“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18-“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

John 13:34-35 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. –

Let us pray for cessation of current wars and forgiveness to reign in all our hearts so that true peace can be experienced.
