Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:1-23

1 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a]

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

WHERE: Chilliwack Heritage Park (44140 Luckakuck Way, Chilliwack, BC )

This Year’s Theme ( https://conference.missioncentral.ca/mfbc2025)

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus wondrously and unwaveringly declares what He will do.

“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” —Matthew 11:28

“I will build my church.” —Matthew 16:18

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” —Matthew 4:19

“I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” —John 14:3

“and I will raise him up on the last day.” —John 6:40

And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” —Matthew 8:7

“And remember! I will be with you always.” —Matthew 28:20

When Jesus declares “I will,” or “I am willing,” these are actions and active statements that tell us where our attention ought to rest. There’s nothing more freeing and exciting than being around the One who is willing, who does the work, and who is present and active!

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

Philippians 2:13

Mission Fest BC 2025 will focus on all of Jesus’ “I will” declarations. As we immerse ourselves in the knowledge of what Jesus is like and what Jesus delights to do, we anticipate that we will experience Jesus just as we did at last year’s conference: a person who is all, who is real, and who brings evidence of His touch.

Abbotsford, BC: Irena’s Vow

January 24, 2025 @ 7:30 pm – February 1, 2025 @ 9:30 pm

Irena’s Vow – A story of courage and heroism, by Dan Gordon

At the height of the German occupation of Poland, Irena Gut is promoted to housekeeper of a high-ranking Nazi officer.

When she discovers the Jewish ghetto is to be expunged, she decides to shelter twelve Jewish workers in the basement of the Commander’s house. Over the next two years, Irena uses her wit & humour while summoning all the strength and courage she can muster to conceal her friends in the shadow of house parties, a blackmail scheme, and the birth of a child.

A powerful story of compassion, grace and tenacity, this unrelenting story of hope amid the atrocities of war will inspire! (Light Magazine)

Encouragement Verses

  • 1 John 4:8: “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love”
  • Ephesians 4:2: “We should be humble, gentle, patient, and bear with one another in love.”
  • Matthew 5:16:  “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
  • Daniel 12:3 “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”

Let us pray for cessation of current wars, and allow hope, joy, love to reign in all our hearts so that true peace can be experienced.
